Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and under the recommendation of the SDDOH our ambulance service is following strict sanitation and proximity guidelines. If you do need an ambulance and are experiencing the COVID-19 symptoms or may have come into contact with someone who has experienced them, please make sure you inform the ambulance dispatcher.
Our Ambulance service is made up of a crew of well trained individuals whom provide efficient emergency services. Hand County Ambulance Service has two ambulances, a 2007 and 2014 unit. The 2007 ambulance is our back up ambulance and our newer 2014 ambulance has become the workhorse for our service. Whether it is transfers to Sioux Falls or hauling two patients from a motor vehicle accident 20 miles from Hand County Hospital, the type III has found a home in our service.
Hand County Ambulance Service covers 1,488 miles of territory, but also responds outside of this service area when requested by neighboring ambulance services. Hand County Ambulance Service went out on 224 calls in 2023. These calls range from emergency calls, ground transfers, or community service events like football games in Miller, and Sunshine Bible Academy, as well as car races, rodeos, and numerous other events.
Because emergency situations can be frightening for both the young and young at heart, the ambulance service also attends and performs tours and educational opportunities for daycares, elementary and high school events, the farm and home show as well as other events. Our mission is to provide timely, quality emergency medical care throughout Hand County.
